What happened to UC Browser?

In the days before I knew about download managers, I’d always install a copy of UC Browser alongside my actual browser because it’s download speeds, when compared to Chrome, were ludicrous. I don’t use it anymore, obviously, but what happened to it? Does it still receive updates? Did anyone else use it the same way I did?

And on a related note, why the hell are browser download speeds so slow? I’m assuming it’s like the snail mode on FDM – it’s meant to download content without affecting your browsing experience, but I could be wrong.
